Vinschgau valley is situated in the West of South Tyrol and ranges from the city of Meran over about 80 km to Reschenpass. It is the driest region of the Eastern Alps. This special climatic conditions bring up a mountainous landscape with a vegetation of singular beauty: the “Sonnenberg”, which is considered one of the most interesting cultivated areas of the Alps . Right in the middle of Vinschgau valley you find the village of Latsch (639 m) with 4300 inhabitants. The village is provided with a good infrastructure and surrounded by widespread orchards.

About 1.100 m above Latsch, on an elevated plain exposed to South, you reach St. Martin in Kofel with its original farms scattered all over and its little church. From the neighboured village of Kastelbell a good-asphalted mountain road of 13 km length leads up. The new and modern cableway represents the shortest (8 minutes) and most panoramic connection between Latsch and St. Martin .
Up there, where in the midst of nature everyday life can be easily forgotten, there is a new modern castle – the tower chalet of the Rizzis.
